I called it last night.  Snow day.  School closed. Christmas holidays continue.  So, our day was "home school" day which the kids absolutely loved and totally immersed themselves in.  Signs were made for open/close for the school, Molly made a schedule.  We had a "field trip" which was to sushi, Powells and then music lessons, which they would not have attended if it wasn't for the snow day.

Kendra showing the kids "The Piano Guys"
The kids really want to get a cello and start learning, but I KNOW them, and I KNOW that they wont practice, so they have to agree to at least 2 minutes every day.  But before I even take out a second mortgage and rent a cello, we've decided that they have to listen to "The Piano Guys" on you tube every day for the next week in order to show they have discipline to commit to music.  They certainly didn't commit to piano, and I want them to really want to play, rather than giving them every whim that crosses their brains.

And then it came to running!  I finally got a run in, and MAN did it feel good.  My first time using the fitbit surge on the treadmill, and I didn't figure out until the end, literally the last 2 seconds, how to start and stop the timer for me run.  But it doesn't matter.  I ran and it felt amazing.

Really, this was day 1 of half marathon training.  Speed workout.  5 x 400's at 5-k pace.  I started at 8 minute miles for the first one (7.5 on the treadmill) and then each 400 worked up.

1st 400 - 7.5 mph (8 minute mile)
2nd 400 -  7.6 mph (7.47 minute mile)
3rd 400 - 7.7 mph
4th 400- 7.8 mph
5th 400 - 8.0 mph (7.30 mile per minute)

I skipped 7.9 because I knew I could hang. This starts my speed workout well for the season, because every week or 2, I return to this but do a few more, so I'll be able to increase my speed.
